Ipamorelin
A synthetic pentapeptide (Aib-His-D-2-Nal-D-Phe-Lys-NH₂), developed at Novo Nordisk as a growth hormone secretagogue.

What is being investigated
Directions the published work points at, and how far each has actually got. These are open questions, not established effects: most of what looks promising in cells does not replicate in animals, and most of what works in animals does not work in people. Nothing here is a claim about what this compound does for anyone.
- Recovery of bowel function after surgery
The only randomised human trial published on this compound asked whether it shortened postoperative ileus. It did not meet its endpoint. That is the whole of the human record, and a negative result is still a result.
Human trials Did not work
- Bone and body composition
Rodent work asks whether amplifying the body's own growth hormone pulses changes bone mineral content and lean mass. Nothing comparable has been run in people.
Animal studies
- Separating growth hormone release from the stress axis
Its selectivity is studied as a property in its own right: releasing growth hormone without the ACTH and cortisol rises of the older secretagogues is what makes it useful for telling the two apart experimentally.

- Ipamorelin: what the research says
A selective growth hormone secretagogue with a completed, published human trial. It missed its primary endpoint, and that is the most useful result it has.
